MARION HORWELL
Marion was a member of the first women’s crew to compete at the 1974 World Championships at Lucerne, Switzerland. Marion continued to have a successful rowing career including the 1975 women’s Australian tour in the coxed four with wins in all three test races and winning both the eight and coxed four test races in 1976 against the Australian State crews. Marion also went on to compete in both the 1978 and 1979 World Championships, before building a prestigious coaching career with Rowing NZ.
ROBYN MATHESON
A member of the first women’s crew to compete at the World Championships in 1974 at Lucerne, Switzerland. Robyn was also in the coxed four who took part in an Australian tour in 1975 and then was in the eight and coxed four when Australian State crews came to New Zealand in 1976. Following that Robyn was in the coxed four to compete against Australian State crews in Australia 1977. At the 1978 World Championships at Lake Karapiro, Robyn was in the coxless pair finishing in sixth place.
GRAEME HAMILTON
Another legend in the sport, Noel Lynch, a teacher, might not have bagged Hamilton for Onslow College, but he made sure Graeme was introduced to the sport at Tawa College and the Porirua Rowing Club. That was in 1971. Less than two years later he was sitting in a New Zealand Junior Eight, being coached by Rusty Robinson, the man that had only just taken the Kiwi Eight to gold at the Munich Olympics.
