Prize giving – 6 APR 2024
The event was kept low cost by hiring the Power Boat Club ($200) and then BYO plate. This worked really well and meant more family members could come along. It was another great night and thanks to Sarah Collins for arranging the venue and Jono for all the work coordinating the selection of the winners, trophy engravement and sorting certificates – which look fantastic.
To the award winners…
- Trophy: Coaches Shield. Awarded for: Not necessarily the best coach but one that has shown a solid commitment to the clubs coaching programme. Winner: Jonathan Debbage
- Trophy: Presidents Trophy. Awarded for: This member’s availability, help and dedication to all activities of Porirua Rowing Club on and off the water (non college member). Winner: Jonathan Debbage
- Trophy: Spirit Blade. Awarded for: The spirit blade is awarded to a rower who is voted or nominated for the award by their peers. The award is not necessarily for the best rower, rather the rower with a great attitude, good work ethic and dedication to rowing. Winner: Zoe Collins
- Trophy: W J Brown Cup – Clubs Most Successful Oarsperson. Awarded for: Most points achieved at all club regattas racing for the Porirua Rowing Club during current season. Winner: Leila Mackay
- Trophy: PRC Committee Trophy – Masters MVP. Awarded for: The member that has shown commitment, dedication and demonstrated positive attitudes towards the PRC masters’ programme. Winner: Pat Leen
- Trophy: Most Resilient – New Adult Rower. Awarded for: The adult/masters rower that has shown growth in their rowing skills, courage and a positive attitude. Must be new to rowing and joint the season since the end of season. Winner: Wendy Barry
- Trophy: Munroe Cup – Best All Round College Male Member. Awarded for: This member’s availability, help and dedication to all activities of Porirua Rowing Club on and off the water (at college for the whole season). Winner: Jack Clark
- Trophy: French Family Trophy – Best All Round College Female Member. Awarded for: This member’s availability, help and dedication to all activities of Porirua Rowing Club on and off the water (at college for the whole season). Winner: Amelie Flowers
- Trophy: Gardner Trophy – Clubs Best Novice. Awarded for: Best novice male that has shown consistant performance, technique, fitness, attendance, and ability. Winner: Jordan Spark
- Trophy: Debbage Trophy – Clubs Best Female Novice. Awarded for: Best novice that has shown consistent performance, technique, fitness, attendance, and ability. Winner: Chloey Trist
- Trophy: R A Cookson Cup – Most Versatile Male Member. Awarded for: This Trophy is not about winning. It is about making a contribution to the Club. The ability to scull and row on both sides in training (with any class of rower). The ability to scull and row on both sides when racing. Winner: Hamish Brown
- Trophy: Hutchings Trophy – Club’s Most Improved Oarsman. Awarded for: Oarsman that has shown consistent improvement compared to previous seasons in activities of Porirua Rowing Club, technique, fitness, attendance, and the ability to race and train with consistently improving results. Winner: Jack Jenkins
- Trophy: S G Mitchell Trophy – Club’s Most Improved Oarswoman. Awarded for: Oarswoman that has shown consistent improvement compared to previous seasons in activities of Porirua Rowing Club, technique, fitness, attendance, and the ability to race and train with consistently improving results. Winner: Leila Mackay
- Trophy: Craig Trophy – Most Outstanding Sculling Performance. Awarded for: Sculling performance at any regatta where a crew or single sculler has performed at a high level and has achieved an outstanding result. Winner: Mens Novice Double – 1st in Rep at National Champs
- Trophy: Alf Mexted Cup – Most Outstanding Rowing Performance. Awarded for: Rowing performance at any regatta where a crew has performed at a high level and has achieved an outstanding result. Winner: Womens Novice Eight – 2nd B Final at National Champs
- Trophy: Allan Jones – Memorial Cup Clubs Best Coxswain. Awarded for: Coxswain that has shown best abilities during the season in calls, course, leadership and regatta organization. Winner: Hamish Brown
- Trophy: Richards Cup – Best Oarswoman. Awarded for: Oarswoman that has shown the best technique, fitness, and ability. Winner: Leila Mackay
- Trophy: Porirua Rowing Club – Clubs Best Oarsman. Awarded for: Oarsman that has shown the best technique, fitness, and ability. Winner: Jack Clark
