WHAT IS Adult LEARN TO ROW?
Our Adult Learn to Row program will run over 2 weeks in November/December 2024. This course is an introduction to rowing. You will be taught the basic rowing techniques and how to work as a team to move the boat effectively. You will also improve your general fitness and meet a great bunch of other adults.
- No experience necessary
- Open to anyone 20yrs+
- Get fit by stealth (it’s fun and you don’t realise you are getting stronger)
You will learn enough in 6 sessions to decide if you wish to continue. If you do, the $50 will be credited to your annual membership fee ($400 down to $350).
HOW LONG?
This Learn to Row will run from Monday 25th Nov to Sunday 8th Dec 2024. Specifically, the session times are:
· Monday 6:30pm (25th Nov and 2 Dec)
· Wednesday 6:30pm (27th Nov and 4 Dec)
· Sunday 10am (1 and 8th Dec)
You will get 6 coached sessions! A typical Learn to Row session is usually around 1.5hrs long, which includes 30 mins to get on/off the water and 1 hour on the water.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I WANT TO CONTINUE?
Join the club! We will continue with coached support (probably the same times) until you can confidentally row with other adults in the club or who you completed the course with. And you are joining when we are about to go exploring on the seas as well.
A lot of people get the rowing bug! It’s social, physical and more challenging than it looks. Have a look at our Facebook and Instagram photos (and under News and Updates on this website) to see the types of things we do, how we run things and the positive culture we set and expect. If you want to continue after the course there are 2 possible pathways:
– You want to keep rowing to develop your fitness, enjoy the social vibe and perhaps still come to the training camps and regattas to train or support. (This is where most people start).
– You are an athlete and want to race at regattas, train frequently and compete at the National Rowing Championships. You may even decide you want to try and get into the new sport of Coastal Rowing! Note our Club is a leader in NZ with this new sport, we have the boats available for you to row in as well. See some photos on this link where hosted the Beach Sprint Coastal Rowing National Championships in May 2024 at Titahi Bay.
