
STUDENT Learn to ROW – September 2025
Porirua Rowing Club is excited to offer our Learn to ROW programme, a four-week introduction to rowing designed for secondary school students. This is the perfect place to start your rowing journey!

📅 Course dates: Tuesday 2 September – Saturday 27 September 2025

🎯 Who can join: Aimed at Year 9 and 10 students, but all current secondary school students are welcome to enrol.
🛶 Please note: Come down and try rowing first for FREE at our Give Rowing a GO! open days.
🧭 What You’ll Learn
Throughout the course, our experienced coaching team will teach the fundamentals of rowing, including:

Safe handling of equipment

Rowing technique and crew coordination

Confidence on the water
Rowing is a technical and demanding sport—even elite athletes are constantly refining their technique. While four weeks won’t make you an expert, it’s more than enough to spark a lifelong passion for the sport.
⚠️ Please note: Rowing is a team sport, so consistent attendance is essential to ensure steady group progress.

🏕️ Learn to ROW Training Camp – Whanganui
To wrap up the course, participants are invited to attend a four-day camp in Whanganui. This is a fantastic opportunity to build team spirit, make friends, and deepen your rowing skills in a focused and supportive environment.

Return to Porirua: Thursday evening, approx. 6:00pm

By enrolling in Learn to ROW, you’re committing to:

Attend all scheduled sessions

Communicate with your coach if unwell or running late

Stay engaged and support your teammates’ learning
Some flexibility will be allowed during school holidays, but consistency is key for safety and skill development. This course also gives you a clear idea of the commitment required to join the 2025–26 Novice Squad.

💰 Course Fees

Learn to ROW (4-week course): $100

Whanganui Camp (optional but highly recommended): $200
– Invoiced after confirmation from participant, approximately week 3

📌How do I enroll for the Course NOW?
Step 1. Complete google forms doc below and then ‘submit’.
Step 2. The google form page will close and you will see an empty webpage. Scroll back up (to just below ‘Register Now’) and you will see a link to take you to the payment page. Alternatively, you will have been sent an email with the link which will take you to the payment page.
Step 3. You will be sent email receipts, confirming your payment. We will email you later this month with more details including links to Heja. Heja is an app used to plan training sessions etc.
